Let’s Help These Children of Heroes Together!
As the founding member and President of ALTEA (Aus-Lanka Technological and Educational AID) Association which is a charity organisation that coordinate the programme to donate IT hardware. Our concept is “Feel yourself the true contentment of giving than the Egoistic Satisfaction (virtually a Resentment) of exploiting for one’s own benefit.” myself, Ajith Mario Perera is considered by my fellow members as the pioneer or the executor of the concept.
I moved to Australia in 2006 to complete my studies and presently employed at Findex Australia in Melbourne. Every year I visit my family in Sri Lanka and in 2012 I received 2 laptops from my company both of which I donated to 2 talented school children in Sri Lanka who could not afford to buy a computer.

“The expression of satisfaction I saw in their eyes as to say they received a world of things in their hands from my donation”, grew my enthusiasm to help many more similar poor and underprivileged children. From 2013 December to 2016 December, I donated IT equipment on a small scale at my own expense to primary school students, schools, churches, temples & orphanages to make a balanced distribution where the need for laptops and other computer products were essential and where they didn’t have the means to afford such IT hardware.
At the beginning of 2017, I saw some Laptops in the Melbourne Findex server room, and I envisaged expanding the donation to a larger network of less fortunate schools in remote regions of Sri Lanka if I could convince the management to donate these for a good cause. Hence, I spoke to Nick Mylonas, from Senior management and informed him about the project I have in mind, to which he fully agreed to donate. He then got the support of other senior management (Spiro Paule and Thomas Paule) and obtained me the clearance to go ahead with my project. At this juncture, another senior work colleague Nalin Ranathunga supported me with the process and organized for me to collect the IT equipment from Findex offices across Australia. The equipment was shipped from Melbourne and with the support of volunteers in Melbourne and Sri Lanka, this was donated to schools. Nevertheless, my request for a feedback from the previous recipient schools sadly fell on deaf ears.
In May 2017, one Mrs. Ramani introduced a gentlemen Mr. Bandula Dharmathilaka the Principal of Arukgammana Maha Vidyalaya, Kegalle. Having satisfied myself with true situation of the school, I continued donating computers to them. The following year Mr. Bandula informed me that they were able to achieve the 1st place in their zone from the 15th place the previous year, in student academic performance. He attributed this directly to the use of computers in the delivery of teaching. This was no doubt a great achievement by his school and it was the turning point of this project. I continued to expand the assistance to many public schools where funding was scarce and where they could not afford to use computers in the delivery of teaching.
Mr. Bandula expanded the number of other underprivileged schools in Kegalle District. Another Principal, Mr. Dayanama Gunathilaka, of Bossella Maha Vidyalaya, Kegalle, also coordinated with Mr. Bandula and organized the donation of IT equipment methodically to more schools in the Kegalle district.
However, the encountered setbacks in accessing Internet facilities to schools which proved an additional cost. Therefore, my colleagues came together and provided with annual funding to 22 Schools in Kegalle District. My family, friends, and I spent more than 10,000 hours volunteering wholeheartedly on this project.
We are glad that by far we have donated approximately Rs.20 million worth of IT equipment in the year 2022 in uplifting the education standards of poor but intelligent segment of underprivileged children who virtually need the care and attention of the affluent. This year, October 2023, we are planning to donate Rs.150Mn worth of IT equipment to 150 schools, located within several districts in Sri Lanka,
I wish to thank everyone for their support and trust, that I will fulfill my undertaking and what I have committed in this project
