IT Equipment Donation worth around Rs.150 million (Aus$. 750,000.00) to underprivileged rural Schools in Feb 2024

The ALTEA Association is planning to do their next IT Equipment donation programme sponsored by Findex Australia in the month of February 2024. In this donation programme, ALTEA Association is hoping to donate IT Equipment worth around Rs.150 million (Aus$. 750,000.00) to underprivileged rural Schools and support poor Children from rural areas to enhance their education to higher levels.

In this upcoming donation programme includes 505 Laptops (16GB Memory), including 100 Lenovo i5 touch system laptops, 210 Lenovo Mini PCs, 194 Monitors, 194 Keyboards, 194 Mice, Network Switches, Projectors, Network equipment and cables, valued at Rs.150 million. This will benefit over 50,000 school children in more than 200 schools across Sri Lanka.

The donation project will be implemented in all Educational Zones in Kegalle District and Educational Zones of Ampara, Badulla, Bibile, Chilaw, Dehiattakandiya, Gampola, Kotmale, Kuliyapitiya, Ratnapura, Seruwila, Walasmulla and Wellawaya.

ALTEA Association, at present provide internet facility to 22 schools in Kegalle region for the year 2023/24.

We aim to donate 350 laptops, 150 Lenovo Mini PC’s, 150 monitors, 150 keyboards, 150 computer mice, 10 network switches, 10 projectors, monitor cables, network cables, and power cables valued at Rs.150Mn,  to 150 schools by October 2023.

Exam Results Are Better Than Previous Years

Kg / Ganthuna Kadurata Maha Vidyalaya, Pallegama, Ganthuna

  • In 2020 the school’s pass percentage for the G.C.E A/L exam was at 33%. After our donations in 2021, the pass percentage has increased to an commendable 100%
  • Similarly, in 2020 the pass percentage for the G.C.E O/L exam was at 64%, and in 2021 increased to 85%
  • Grade 5 scholarship results have increased significantly
  • The school’s population has also increased
  • The school has used the donated equipment to update their date system, develop an automatic bell system, and to access films and videos to use as teaching tools
  • The school used Internet facility for their official duties too. Using online, they update database systems such as SEMIS, NEMIS & etc. Using Internet facility they, forward applications for exams online.

  • In 2022, the school’s Grade 5 scholarship exam results are at the best they have been in five years, and the school’s population has increased
  • The students were taught how to use the donated equipment, and applications such as MS Paint and MS Word to help further their studies
  • The school now has access to the internet and are able to use online spaces to communicate with each other, carry out administrative work and organise engaging lessons

Improved Results in G.C.E. O/L Exams

Kg/ Gali/ Arandara New Model Junior School, Atala

  • In 2021, the school achieved their best results in G.C.E O/L exams with record scores in the school’s history. Previously, the school’s pass percentage was below 60%. After our donations, this number has increased to 73%
  • The school has conducted additional ICT classes on Saturdays and school holidays to teach students how to use the donations to their full capacity
  • The school also used donated equipment for official tasks, such as filing scholarship applications and applying for mandatory textbooks and resources

Student Population Increase

  • The total number of students admitted to the school has increased significantly 
  • The schools used the donated equipment to forward information to the Education Department online; this has allowed them to apply for school textbooks and other resources, as well as participate in the Education Department’s Zoom meetings
  • The donations have also helped the schools with commemorative activities, like helping students put on concerts for their peers
