ALTEA and UOVT Join Forces to Boost Digital Education for Sri Lankan Children

We signed an MOU with the University of Vocational Training (UOVT) in December 2025 to collaborate on a charitable initiative aimed at enhancing education for children in Sri Lanka.

The government established UOVT to provide educational opportunities and skill development for students. However, a key challenge is that these institutions lack sufficient digital resources to fully support this program.

Through this project, we will provide laptops to UOVT, which will serve as an intermediary and coordinate with the government to support rural schools. UOVT will also manage the purchase of laptop batteries and chargers if needed, and test all laptops with their students prior to distribution. This marks a significant collaborative effort that we are proud to undertake.

1500 Laptops to Rebuild Education in Sri Lanka After Cyclone Ditwah

Last year, in November 2025, the Dithwa cyclone disaster damaged around 200 schools island wide, along with several vocational training centers. We submitted a proposal offering our support, particularly to the Dithwa affected schools, vocational training centers, and other rural schools.

The government established UOVT to provide educational opportunities and skills development for these students. However, the key challenge is that the institutions do not have sufficient digital resources to effectively support this program.

In this project, UOVT will act as an intermediary and communicate with the government. They will provide updates to government authorities and the Australian Embassy in Sri Lanka to avoid administrative barriers. The government has waived all taxes and port charges and will assist in transporting the laptops to their destinations. UOVT will also handle laptop battery and chargers purchases if necessary and test all laptops using their students before distribution. I signed an MOU with UOVT for this process in December 2025 and attached 2 photos of signing the MOU.

The total loss to Sri Lanka from the Dithwa disaster is estimated at USD 4.1 billion. This digital equipment support is highly appreciated and will benefit not only the Dithwa affected schools but also rural schools across the country.

I respectfully wish to inform you that ALTEA Association, a non-governmental organization in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with Findex Australia, one of the largest accounting and business advisory firms in Australia and New Zealand has decided to donate ICT equipment (laptops) to support educational institutions affected by recent disaster situations in Sri Lanka..

Accordingly, the ALTEA Association proposes to donate approximately 1,500 refurbished laptops over a period of one year, on a phased basis from time to time. These donations are intended for disaster-affected schools, the University of Vocational Technology (UoVT), its University Colleges, and TVET institutions, with the objective of supporting the speedy recovery of Sri Lanka during the post-disaster period, particularly within the education and skills development sectors.

We are blessed to support Sri Lanka in this initiative with the blessings of Findex Management.
